Apparently slipping on to Panasonic’s website ahead of schedule is their new Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5K high end compact.
Packing a /1.63″ High Sensitivity 10 megapixel CCD with ‘evolved sensor technology,’ the camera offers HD Movie Recording (AVCHD Lite) with Dolby Digital Creator and SD Link compatibility, plus manual exposure in movie mode.
We’re assuming that this is the follow up to the awesome Lumix LX3 camera – our camera of the year for 2009 – but we’ll know for sure when the product gets the full press release on Tuesday.
Improved lens
There’s a 3.8x LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON f2-3.3 optical zoom lens on board offering 24-90mm (35mm equiv) – a fair step up from the LX3’s zoom range of 90mm- with ISO running from 80 – 12800 and, interestingly, an optional electronic and optical viewfinder.
In line with its high end aspirations, there’s Program AE, Aperture Priority AE, Shutter Priority AE, Manual and Program Shift (Program AE Mode) modes for creative shooting and a claimed battery life of 400 shots.
Here’s the full spec sheet from Panasonic’s site:
The LX3 is an incredible camera but I’m not seeing that much reason to upgrade here. The extra zoom is handy but worth shelling out for a new camera.
Looks like the page has been pulled, the link says the page hasn’t been found. Nice looking camera though, any idea about price?
