There’s dedication and then there’s Roy Castle-style dedication, and it certainly must have taken some heroic gumption to sit down and create a 9.5 minute video showing every install of Microsoft Windows from version 1.0 right through to the latest Windows 7.
The video created by Andrew Tait starts with an installation of Microsoft Windows 1.0 – which was first released on November 20, 1985 -and then takes you through a white knuckle ride of upgrades detailing 25 years of installation screens.
You can admire the changing interfaces of the different versions of Windows over the years, although the hideous nightmare that was Windows ME is missing from the video, as the upgrade path forced users to choose either ME or Windows 2000.
After a while, the video becomes strangely compelling, with Andrew’s dulcet Scottish tones and never-ending curiosity with Windows default colour schemes somehow conspiring you to lure you in.
