An astonishing sci-fi trailer, shot with a budget of just $300 and posted on YouTube, has swiftly landed its creator a $30 million Hollywood movie deal.
Producer Fede Alvarez’s incredibly slick video – “Ataque de Panico” (Panic Attack) – shows giant robots invading the city of Montevideo with all the destructive force of lager-fuelled Millwall fans gatecrashing a rival’s pub.
The gigantic CGI humanoids in the video run amok in the capital of Uruguay, sending citizens fleeing as buildings explode in a feast of luscious, computer generated kabooms!
The 5 minute clip was uploaded on the Thursday, and Alvarez says that the offers from Hollywood were flooding in by the Monday.
He was soon saying thank you very much, don’t mind if I do to Ghost House Pictures who offered a $30 million dollar deal to make a full-length sci-fi thriller set in Uruguay and Argentina (although the movie won’t be based on the YouTube video).
The movie has now been seen by 4 million viewers on YouTube.
