Acer is plunging into the Android world in a big way, announcing a stunning new smartphone/tablet hybrid as well as two new tablets.
The 10.1-inch and 7 inch Acer tablets use an unspecified Android OS , and details are frustratingly scarce. Like the smartphone, both are currently unnamed.
No big one with no name
The bigger Tablet With No Name comes with 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, a 5MP rear camera and a front-facing one, and is a is fairly slender number at just 13.3mm thick (a tad thicker than the iPad which measures up at 12.7mm).
The aluminium clad tablet also packs 10-point multi-touch and a “gyro-meter control,” whatever that is.

The smaller 7″ tablet runs Android OS (we’re not sure which version), with a dual-core processor (we’re not sure which one) and packs a massive 1280 x 800 display with a 16:10 aspect ratio.
There’s also WiFi and 3G onboard, plus Flash 10.1, DNLA and Dolby Mobile Technology support.
On the front is a “HD” camera for recording or video conferencing and the device can output HD with an HDMI port.
Both devices will go on sale in April 2011, along with a Windows version of the 10.1 tablet, aimed at busiuness users.
Hopefully we’ll have more just a few more details before then, as writing this article has been like spreading a tiny pot of jam over the world’s biggest slice of toast.
