Google have announced that the astonishing figure of three billion apps have now been installed onto Android devices, with the milestone being reached only a few months after the platform smashed through the two billion app barrier.
Stat thrusting orgy
The stats were thrust skyward by Jeff Huber, Google’s Senior VP Commerce and Local, at the company’s quarterly earnings call this week, who noted that the accelerating growth of the platform has seen Android app downloads soar by 50% since the last quarter of 2010.
Android still has some way to reach Apple’s cock’o’the walk tally of ten million downloads, but with the iOS market share being rapidly dwarfed by the all-conquering Google, that can surely only be a matter of time.
It’s also worth noting that the open nature of the platform means that Android users can also download apps from other marketplaces, like the recently launched Amazon Android App Store.
Activations galore
Android activations are going through the roof too, with Huber saying that 350,000 Android devices are now being activated per day.
And as Cilla would declare in her Liverpudlian shrill, that’s a lorra lorra lorra handsets.
