We’re tried out a veritable battalion of alternative browsers for our Android handsets over the years, but only one has recently emerged to stand at the very top of the pile: the Miren browser.
No nonsense
A modest-looking, Chinese-authored affair, Miren stands above big hitters like Firefox, Opera and Dolphin by virtue of its super-snappy speed, and no-frills interface which offers intuitive controls and full screen browsing.
Sporting built in brightness controls and flash support, the app supports multi-touch pinch zoom, and lets you use your volume buttons to scroll through pages, backed by swipe forward and back controls.
The fully tabbed browser is delightfully straightforward to use and we loved the bookmark manager and ‘top sites’ page, which listed a slew of popular sites.
Wrapping up the feature set, there’s also bookmark import/export via SD, RSS feeds (but – sadly – not the ability to subscribe to our Google Reader RSS feeds), bandwidth saving options, and the app can usefully be installed to SD too.
We’re very much loving this browser, so strongly recommend you give it a go!
