A study by stat-juggling spods comScore has found that Google Android remains on an unstoppable trajectory in the States, with their smartphone market share reaching 41.8 per cent – a huge rise from the 36.4 per cent share it held in April this year.

Although now a long distant second with a 27 per cent market share, Apple still managed to increase their slice of the pie a little, registering a modest 1.2 per cent growth since the last quarter.
It was reported that 82.2 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending in July 2011, up 10 percent from the previous quarter.
According to conScore, a total of 234 million Americans own a mobile of some description.

Samsung is the top dog of handsets
Surveying more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers, the study found that Samsung was the top handset manufacturer in the US, commanding a 25.5 per cent market share, followed by LG (20.9 per cent), Motorola (14.1 per cent), Apple (9.5 per cent) and the slip-sliding RIM at 7.6 per cent.

ComScore likes to ask people what they do with their mobiles, and their latest study found that 70 per cent love to text, 41.1 per cent are busy browsing and 40.6 per cent have headed off to their phone’s store to download an app.
Nearly a third (30.1 per cent) use their phones for social networking, with 27.8 per cent play mobile games and a fifth (20.3 per cent) play music on their handsets.
