Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablet packs immense quad-core power

We’re really excited by the new ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime – a tablet that converts into a netbook – and an enthusiastic video review has been posted up showing off its shiny, shiny features.

The Transformer Prime specs are fantastic, with the tablet coming with a 10.1″ Super IPS+ Gorilla Glass screen supporting 1280 x 800 pixels resolution and a 10 finger multi-touch display.

Inside, there’s a super-beefy Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core processor backed by 1GB of RAM and 32 or 64GB SSD storage plus G-Sensor, Gyroscope, E-compass, GPS & Light Sensor onboard.

The twin cameras have been upgraded to a 8MP rear auto-focus camera with LED flash, back-illuminated CMOS sensor and fast f2.4 lens, with a 1.2MP number on the front for video calls.

Wafer thin

Only 8.3mm slim and 586g light – comparable to the iPad2 – the tablet runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb, upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Connectivity options  include a 2-in-1 audio jack, micro HDMI, Micro SD card reader, internal microphone, with the dock serving up an additional USB 2.0 port and a full size card reader.

Combined with the docking station, battery life is claimed at an outrageous 18 hours – which makes this product perfect for all day working.

iPad killer?

Is it an iPad killer? No, of course, not: this is a different thing.

But is it a fantastic tablet offering a unique set of features that might give it an edge over any other tablet currently available? Damn right. We want one!

UK pricing is yet to be announced, but the US prices of $499 for the 32GB model and $599 for 64GB make this a very competitive offering indeed.

Check out the two hands on reviews below, both of which are very enthusiastic:
