The battle between Nikon and Canon for the lower.mid end of the dSLR market intensifies, with Canon announcing their new EOS 100D/Rebel SL1 camera, billed as the world’s smallest and lightest DSLR.
Inside its curvy black lines can be found the same 18MP resolution sensor, DIGIC 5 processor, 3″ touchscreen and 1080p30 video capabilities of the mirrorless EOS M.

So how small is it?
Canon says the thing measures up at 4.6″ (w) x 3.57″ (h) x 2.74″ (d) for the body, and weighs only 14.36 oz. making it 25 percent smaller and 28 percent lighter than the EOS Rebel T4i digital camera.
The new 18 megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor sports an ISO range of 100-12800 (expandable to H: 25600) for photos and ISO-6400 (expandable to H: 12800) for video, and the Canon’s DIGIC 5 Image Processor technology lets users rattle off pics at up to four frames per second.
A new nine-point centre cross-type autofocus (AF) system is onboard, with the Hybrid CMOS AF II sensor providing a wider focus area when shooting photos or video in Live View mode. The continuous AF speed has also been improved over previous EOS models.
Video shooting is boosted by Canon’s Movie Servo AF, providing continuous AF tracking of moving.
The 100D has a recommended price of $799.99/£799 with the co-announced EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM kit lens.
