It’s Friday, so we’re in the mood for anything that distracts us from doing proper work, and what could be better than a music video made up of animated GIFs.
It’s got unicorns, Little and Large, a shoe-ducking Bush, Slinkies, dancing kittens and a sexy Picard in all the colour-reduced, blocky, jerky-playback glory of an animated GIF, so what’s not to like?
Old school
Back in the day, animated GIFs were just about the only way to get some pointless, low rent animation going on your webpage, with some sites enthusiastically adopting them in as many places as possible,
Evan Roth’s perfectly executed “Cache Rules Everything Around Me” celebrates the wonder of the animated GIF over its seven minutes, and the soundtrack by Girl Talk ain’t ‘alf bad ether.

(*yes, we can see that some of what’s in there looks suspiciously like video footage and not animated GIFs, but we’ll overlook that)
Want MOAR?
Happily, there’s still plenty of sites out there stuck in in that 1998 animated GIF thang.
God Squad website Dokimos goes one better than most by featuring an animated, rainbow hued background and some terrifically cheesy animations around the site.
And if flashing lights and blinking coloured text are your thing, look no further than this epilepsy-inducing spectacular for a children’s hospital on Japan.
It’s really rather special.
