It’s a curious thing alright, but for reasons best known to themselves, Motorola decided to release their Xoom Android tablet with a microSD card slot that just lay there doing nothing.
Any attempt to introduce it to a card would be met with indifference. This was one tablet that simply wasn’t interested in your steenkin’ microSD.
However, there’s good news ahead for non-US Xoom owners as the slot is about to be activated with the tablet’s Android 3.1 update.
The update is currently rolling out across Europe, and all users should be able to gleefully insert their cards and exchanging data with gay abandon by the next few weeks.
On their Facebook page, Motorola explicitly describes this firmware update as being for “non-US” Xooms only, so for now, Americans will have to keep looking forlornly at their useless card slots.
