The official Android Facebook app has lagged behind the iPhone version for yonks, but it seems that the folks at the social networking uber-site are slowly waking up to the growing popularity of the platform.
The update to their Android app sees Facebook introducing a slew of new features that now work in-app, so users are less likely to be hoiked out of the app and dumped on to the Android browser to perform certain certain functions.
Video’n’RSVP
The new version now supports video playback, and includes the ability to view and RSVP events and respond to friend requests without leaving the app.
New homescreen
There’s also a snazzy updated home page too, featuring a draggable notifications drawer, a horizontally scrollable photo strip for flicking through friends’ photos and videos, and the ability to post a status update or search for friends with a single click.
Facebook for Android is free and available in the Android Market.
