Facebook fans who like to strut the streets with a BlackBerry in their pockets should be pleased to hear that a new beta version of Facebook for BlackBerry is now available.
Integrated search
The latest 1.9 version of Facebook for BlackBerry serves up a similar set of features to the iPhone and Android apps, with a new navigation bar, enhanced Friends and Pages listings and an updated Facebook Search letting users search for individual people and pages.
For handsets running the latest BlackBerry 6 OS, the Facebook Search is tied into the system’s integrated Universal Search, so if you search your BlackBerry smartphone for a query, Universal Search will also pull in results from Facebook.
The updated Friends and Page Lists organises the info into tabs with thumbnails, so that you can select a friend or Page to see individual information or updates.
Facebook messages on Blackberry handsets are also now synchronised with a user’s web inbox, with the Blackberry blog enthusing:
Once you’ve logged in, Facebook for BlackBerry will continue to leverage our unique BlackBerry Push service to keep messages updated. The end goal is an integrated email interface that looks as much like your everyday Facebook inbox as possible!
Get in quick
Facebook for Blackberry 1.9 can be downloaded for free via the BlackBerry Beta Zone (once you’ve signed up), although Blackberry implore you not to tarry too long as there’s only a limited number of spots available for the beta program.
