Although the built-in media authoring features of Windows 7/78 are more than enough for many folks, power users may find the Nero and NeroPlatinum multimedia suites a worthwhile investment.
Freshly upgraded to v12.5, the latest update sees the multimedia suite beefing up its video converting and video editing capabilities, with the new Nero Recode feature making it easy to rip and convert your videos to watch on other devices.
Nero offers built in support for exporting optimised media to the latest generation of tablets and smartphones, including the iPad Mini, all iPad models, iPhone 5, iPod Touch 5G, iPod Nano 7G, Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro tablets, Windows 8 Phone and Kindle Fire HD.
Other improvements should see faster editing and exporting.
Nero 12.5 is available now as a free online update for purchasers of Nero 12 or Nero 12 Platinum, or costs £69.99/€79.99 new.

New Nero 12.5 Multimedia Suite beefs up video converting and video editing capabilities
Free update to Nero 12 and Nero 12 Platinum expands mobile device support for video converting and brings even greater customisation and control to video editing
London, UK – March 13, 2013 – Nero has released a new version of its popular Nero 12 and Nero 12 Platinum multimedia suites, giving video enthusiasts even more performance and value.
Nero Recode gets even smarter
The video converting application Nero Recode has received one of the most significant enhancements in this new version of the Nero suite.
Nero Recode sets the standard for making it easy and fast to rip and convert your videos to watch on other devices. The update now includes pre-configured device profiles for the latest generation of tablets and smartphones, including the iPad Mini, all iPad models, iPhone 5, iPod Touch 5G, iPod Nano 7G, Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro tablets, Windows 8 Phone and Kindle Fire HD.
Nero Recode also now automatically detects a computer’s GPGPU hardware and uses it by default to finish video converting jobs four to eight times faster.
Significant improvements have also been made to the usability of the product. The new Job2Device feature groups video converting jobs by target device. This makes it easier to see the status of all the videos that are being converted for a particular device.
Customisable video editing effects
Enhancements to the Nero Video editing software in Nero 12.5 give video hobbyists even more ways to create projects that will impress their friends and family.
Nero Video already offers hundreds of video effects and themes, including new video stabilisation and vintage-style film effects in the Nero 12 Platinum edition. Now, Nero Film Effects and video stabilisation settings can be tweaked and saved as drag-and-drop templates to be used again in future projects.
The overall performance of Nero Video was also improved to make editing and exporting faster. It now uses memory more efficiently to allow for longer and more involved projects. It also boosts the viewing and editing experience for HD formats such as AVCHD 2.0.
Music is an important component of any video project and Nero Video now provides even more ways for users to work it into their video projects.
The application can automatically match the music duration to the duration of the project, including photos and video clips. When appropriate, this feature uses intelligent looping and auto fades to fill gaps in the music track to make the project and music match perfectly. It also works in reverse, matching the duration of a photo slideshow to whatever music has been selected.
“Nero 12.5 is our best multimedia suite even better,” said Martin Stein, Chief Product Officer, Nero. “If you enjoy watching videos in the best possible quality at home or on the go, or if you love to create your own video productions, this update is a must-have.”
