Google was asked on their Webmaster Help Forums to explain the mysteries of their search engine system, and produced a very handy video in response.
The question, set by a RobertvH, Munich, was certainly comprehensive:
Hi Matt, could you please explain how Google’s ranking and website evaluation process works starting with the crawling and analysis of a site, crawling timelines, frequencies, priorities, indexing and filtering processes within the databases etc.
Happily, one of Google’s search experts, Matt Cutts, was more than up to the task, providing a lengthy and informative reply in this 7:45 minute video.
