Google shunts Reader link off the GMail interface, users not chuffed

Google demotes Reader link off the GMail interface, users not chuffed

Here’s a fresh little annoyance that Google have just delivered to our daily experience.

Although we all know that popularity of RSS feeds are fast fading as people continue to flock to Twitter for their news, we still use Google Reader every day for accessing a slew of websites.

Link begone

Traditionally, there’s always been a handy link to Reader along the top of the GMail interface but today it’s quietly been booted off the top slot and relegated to the ‘more’ drop down menu, with a link to Photos (Picasa) replacing it.

Of course, it’s only a minor UI change, but like a lot of users we rather liked things as they were, thanks. Give us our link back where we liked it please, Google!

And it’s not just us that’s a bit miffed:

  1. This isn’t really bad news for content creators or Internet marketers since it decreases the amount of competition that knows or learns how to use google reader (which is my no1 tool for Internet marketing networking and gaining knowledge on my niche or the niche of my clients)

I use to use Picasaweb for uploading holiday pics while travelling abroad but definitely not as often used as Google Reader.

Well, http://reader.google.com is easy enough to navigate to.
