First launched as an experimental app in March this year, Google’s ‘Gesture Search’ app for Android is a fascinating concept, letting users search for anything on their devices by just writing a letter on the touchscreen.
If that sounds a bit baffling, here’s the boys from the lab to explain it all with a few pictures:
Gesture Search from Google Labs lets you search your Android-powered device by drawing gestures on the touch screen.
It allows you to quickly find a contact, a bookmark, an application, or a music track from hundreds or thousands of items, all in one place. It is fast and fun to use.
Flippin ‘eck
Google have now made the app even easier to use by adding a new ‘Double Flip’ gesture, letting you start Gesture Search just by turning your phone to one side and then moving it back to its usual position.
The amount of, err, flippage needed can be adjusted so you only activate the search when you intend to.
More stuff soon
Gesture Search currently only works for Android contacts, bookmarks, applications and music on handsets running OS 1.6 and above, but we expect more features in the future.
