With Chromebooks now one of the faster-growing segments of the PC category, manufacturers are looking to entice users with more upmarket models, and HP’s new Chromebook x2 packs in an impressive spec sheet at a reasonable price.
Running on a 7th Generation Intel Core-Y series processor, the Chromebooks comes with up to 8 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, plus access to the Google Play store.
Showcasing a premium look with a ceramic white anodised aluminium finish and Oxford Blue surface on the keyboard, star of the show is the detachable Quad HD (2400×1600) 12.3-inch IPS screen protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 touch display.
The laptop’s magnetic hinge means it can be pulled out to make a tablet, much like the old Android Asus Transformer laptops from a few years back.
Inside the Chromebook x2 can be found an Intel Core M3-7Y30 processor (two cores with hyperthreading) backed by Intel HD Graphics 615, with the base configuration offering 4 GB LPDDR3-1600 RAM, with support for a healthy 8 GB in total.
Internal storage comes with 32 GB eMMC memory, expandable to 256 GB through a microSD card slot and there’s two integrated stereo HP speakers custom tuned by B&O Play for playback.
Connectivity options include 802.11ac 2×2 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, a multi-format digital card reader, two USB 3.0 Type-C ports, and a headphone/microphone combo jack for audio.
There’s two cameras on board: a 5-megapixel front camera, a 13-megapixel rear camera, and battery life is rated at 10.5 hours.
