Looking to grab some of the attention from Google’s hugely popular Nexus 7 tablet is HP’s bargain-basement offering, the HP Slate 7, which is now available on pre-order for just £129.
That fairly minimal outlay gets you a rather attractive looking Android Jelly Bean tablet with a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, Rockchip RK3066 ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM and a modest 8GB of storage.
Although the Nexus 7 specs will safely see off the HP in every one of the above departments, the Slate 7 does have a trick up its sleeve in the shape of both front and rear cameras and a microSD card slot for extra storage.
We’re not sure that would be enough to tempt us away from the Nexus 7, but it still looks a capable performer for £30 less than the cheapest Google offering – although that does comes with 16GB storage.
The HP Slate 7 will be available in the UK from the 1st of May for £129, while the same tablet will retail for $169 in the US with a release date sometime this month.
