It’s taken a long time to finally reach shipping, but manufacturer Fusion Garage insist that their “category-creating” JooJoo Internet tablet is currently being lovingly plonked into cardboard boxes and should be in the hands of US consumers by Monday, March 29.
Previously regaling under the name of ‘CrunchPad’ , the $499 JooJoo packs a 12.1″ multi-touch capacitive display, with generous screen resolution of 1366 x 768, plus a front-facing camera and support for Flash content and a ho-hum five hours of battery.
There’s also Wi-Fi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR onboard, 4GB SSD (but no SD card slot – bah!), accelerometer, ambient light sensor, integrated speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB port.
The recently revamped interface looks very nice indeed, and there’s now both a smaller, moveable on-screen keyboard for quick, one-handed writing and a full-screen multitouch keyboard that recognises more than one key at a time for your magnum opus.
We certainly like the look of the thing, but we think it’s going to be an uphill struggle for an unproven, unknown company to persuade users to invest in their products when there’s – you know what – coming over the hill.
Here’s the press release:
