They’re curious looking things alright, but if you like your external drives to be fashioned like a flattened metal pipe with some silvery stuff oozing out, LaCie’s new Starck Mobile Drive USB 3.0 could soon be jostling for space on your desktop.
USB 3.0 for speed
Designed by Phillip Starck, the 500GB style statement packs USB 3.0 connectivity for extra-whizzy file transfers and comes bundled with 10GB of online storage at Wuala Online and LaCie’s Backup Assistant for snaffling backups.
Apparently targeted at ‘technology enthusiasts who demand stylish aesthetics with leading technology,’ the drive comes encased in 2mm of sturdy aluminium, which offers ‘resilience from blunders, improved heat dissipation, and is fully recyclable.’
The LaCie Starck Mobile Drive USB 3.0 will set you back £89 in the UK and $109 in the States.
