With premium phones becoming much of a muchness these days it’s getting tougher for manufacturers to produce flagship handsets that really stand out from the crowd.
We’ve always been fans of LG’s top of the range devices, and the company has pushed the boat out with their new G4, which offers a slight arc to its chassis, soft-touch rear and central power button on the back.
Lurking inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, supported by Adreno 418 GPU graphics, expandable miscroSD storage and -huzzah! – 3,000mAh removable battery. Take that Samsung! (the last two features were notably absent from the S6 and S6 Edge).
Packing a 5.5-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2,560×1,440 pixels, LG say it’s 30 percent brighter and with 50 percent higher contrast than its predecessor.
“It is the first Quad HD display to employ Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) technology, which combines the LCD and touch sensor into a single layer to provide better colour reproduction and touch sensitivity,” said LG. We don’t know what that means, but we’ll nod our heads and pretend that we do.
The real meat in the sandwich is the G4’s 16-megapixel camera with a super-fast aperture of f/1.8, backed by top of the line specs: image stabilisation tech, fast autofocus and a colour spectrum sensor. There’s also a slew of manual controls onboard plus the ability to save images as RAW files as well as JPEGs.
It’s a speedy thing too, with LG claiming that it can be launched in 0.6 seconds using the rear key. Ceck out the frankly incredible footage below:

Unusually the phone comes with a genuine leather rear cover and is offered in various colours, plus three ceramic options.
Weighing in at 155g, the phone measures 6.3 – 9.8 mm thin and 76mm x 149.9mm wide/tall.
Initial pricing puts the LG G4 at £500 for the metal version and £525 for the leather version.

Good to see a replaceable battery and micro SD on a flagship, My Galaxy SII recently had its third replacement battery and still going strong, but when it finally goes I’ll probably switch to LG.
Also the G4 appears to have an FM radio, which Samsung haven’t had for years. Not the most cutting edge feature for sure, but damn handy if you’re in 2G land, or just want to save your battery or data allowance!!
