This seems to be a cunningly clever app to make sure that you get to work on time by waking you up earlier if there are delays on your route.
As well as working as a standard alarm clock, Underground Alarm can be set to automatically wake you up earlier if there are disruptions on any of the lines you use for your daily commute.
Users simply set their regular alarm time and input the London Underground lines they use (including Overground and DLR).
If there’s no transport disruptions (as if!), they can carry on slumbering, but the app will sound earlier if it looks like it’s going to take longer than usual to get to work.
It is extremely easy to set up and use. Just set your regular alarm time, which lines you use, the tube status threshold, early alarm time and your favourite ringtone and you’re good to go! Of course there are many more customisation options to explore, e.g. why not have it read the status updates to you or launch your favourite news app after the alarm?
The app if a free download it from Android Market – check out the video below for more info.
If it works, this is very clever indeed. We are finally starting to see some of the clever technology that has supposedly been ‘just around the corner’ for 20 years or so!
Mind you, pity those of us still dependant on provincial public transport- and waiting at the bus stop in the rain!!
We’re pretty confident that it works and we would like to hear from people who tried it!
At the moment it’s still completely free (and with no hidden charges) on the Android Market.
