Nikon has added a beefy new DX-format zoom to their range, with the AF-S Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR offering a 16.7x zoom ratio and a 27-450mm equivalent focal range.
Anti-shake onboard
Backing up the hefty zoom is Nikon’s second-generation Vibration Reduction system, which the company insist will allow “substantially sharper handheld images across the zoom range” backed by their Silent Wave Motor technology (SWM) offering speedy auto focus with super-quiet operation.
Inside the lens lurks 19 elements in 14 groups, including 3 aspherical and 3 ED lens elements, with the zoom managing a 45cm close-focus point at the 300mm setting, with the iris diaphragm coming with 9 rounded blades.
With a weight of 830 grams, you’ll certainly be aware of its presence on your camera.
Bundled with a CL-1120 soft pouch and a petal-shaped HB-58 hood, the Nikon 18-300mm lens should be available by the end of the month, costing around £850/$1000.
