Samsung have announced that they will be releasing a Wi-Fi only version of their innovative Android-powered Galaxy Camera.
Like the 3G/4G version, the Galaxy mashes up an Android device running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with a decent camera to create a powerful, flexible and well connected snapper.
The camera boasts a 16.3-megapixel CMOS sensor with a 21x optical zoom starting at a usefully wide 23mm, while around the back there’s a 4.8-inch 720p HD display.
Inside, there’s a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a microSD slot, and the camera comes with a slew of smart shooting modes.
Initially, we weren’t so sure abut the viability of this Android/phone combo, but seeing folks using them to edit their pics and videos on the fly for instant upload at press launches and news events, we’re convinced.
Frustratingly, the company didn’t trouble itself to announce pricing or availability, but with the 3G/4G models starting at $499, we reckon they’ll be hovering around the $250 mark.
Here’s the press guff:
