Offering fantastic value and designed for simplicity, the new Samsung Chromebook can now be purchased through the Google Play Store at the hugely affordable price of £229 ($249) for the Wi-Fi model.
The new 11.6-inch Chromebook packs an Exynos 5 Dual processor, one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 port, an HDMI-out port, SD card reader and 2GB of RAM and an 11.6″ (1366 x 768) HD display.
There’s a front facing VGA webcam on board, and in line with its cloud-centric approach, there’s only 16GB of on-board storage backed by a hefty 100GB of cloud storage courtesy of Google Drive.
Despite its low price it look rather a stylish number, weighing just 2.5 pounds and measuring up at 0.8 inches thick.
Connectivity options include WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n 2×2 and Bluetooth 3.0 while the battery should keep you going for a quoted 6.5 hours on a full charge.
Engadget got an early hands on (see video below) and seemed impressed:
First impressions? This is a solid machine — build quality and materials are fantastic for the price. It’s also pleasantly thin and light, a boon for people who are used to carrying a laptop around every day.
We’re happy with the display which is bright and crisp. Viewing angles could use some improvement, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a better laptop screen at this price. The keyboard and trackpad feel great (we’re coming from an 11-inch Core i7 MacBook Air), and two-finger scrolling works like a charm.
