They’re teasing and taunting us with painfully small snippets of information, but there’s no doubting that the follow-up to the monstrously successful Samsung Galaxy S Android handset is coming our way.
Big screen, small body
Called the Galaxy S2 (possibly) and set to be officially unveiled on Feb 13th (definitely), the new GalaxyS2 is reported to run the latest Android – 2.3 Gingerbread – and pack a dual-core CPU and an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p FullHD video recording.
The new Galaxy is expected to serve up a 4.3″ WVGA (800×480 pixels) screen using the next generation Super AMOLED plus technology in a trouser-untroubling body measuring just 9mm thick.
Dual core goodness
Codenamed Seine (after the French river), the smartphone looks set to come with NFC support and be powered by a processor based on Samsung’s custom dual-core Orion SoC.
This employs two ARM Cortex A9 cores both running at 1GHz (a la NVIDIA Tegra 2) – and if you don’t know what any of that means just take it from us: it’ll be fast!
Speedier graphics
Samsung promises up to 5x improvement in the graphics performance department too, courtesy of an as-yet-unnamed chip, and there’ll be a generous 1GB of RAM onboard.
The South Korean tech giant is set to release another teaser on Feb 1st, with the handset being officially revealed at the MWC Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain on the 13th of February
