Aimed fairly and squarely at Da Yoot Market are the new budget Samsung S5560 and Samsung B3410 smartphones, freshly punted out into the pre-Christmas market by the Carphone Warehouse.
The pricing may be lower end, but there’s some decent features in tow, with the Samsung S5560 packing a 3-inch touchscreen display toting handwriting recognition, an orientation sensor, Wi-Fi, 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 2.1 and a FM radio with RDS.
There’s also a video-capable 5-megapixel camera onboard packing smile and blink detection, with a microSD slot taking cards up to 16GB but – tragically – no 3G.
The S5560 features the curious sounding “Etiquette Pause” feature which Samsung bill as “a unique tool perfect for a hectic lifestyle.”
We rather hoped that the feature may insert words like “please” and “thank you” into the mouths of surly yoofs, but instead it’s just a means of silencing the phone quickly: turn the Samsung face down and it will temporarily pause the music being played and mute the sound of calls, texts and alarms.
Samsung B3410
The cheaper Samsung B3410 touchscreen handset comes with a QWERTY sliding keyboard for high speed social networking.
The phone also rocks a 2.6 inch QVGA display, quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity, 2MP camera and all-important widgets for maximum Facebook, MySpace and Twitter action.
There’s 30MB of internal memory plus a MicroSD card slot, with the handset powering along on a 960 mAh battery.
The S5560 is available on PAYG for £149.95 (contract options available) while the Samsung B3410 will cost £99.95 on PAYG.
