Samsung slips out Chromebook 3 with beefy 11-hour battery life

For writers, students and folks who like to spend long hours tippety-tapping on their mains-untethered laptops, the new Samsung Chromebook 3 looks to be a perfect machine, with the budget laptop sporting a mighty 11 hour battery life.

The 2.5-pound notebook packs a reinforced metal body to take the rough’n’tumble of life on the road, with the machine being powered by an Intel Celeron N3050 CPU, offered with either 2GB or 4GB of RAM.

The 11-inch display offers a modest resolution of 1366 x 768 while under the hood can be found 16GB of on-board storage.

Connectivity options are well catered for, with the Chromebook 3 offering a microSD slot, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.0, a 720p webcam, one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, and HDMI out.

Samsung haven’t exactly made much of a splash with this release, but here’s some more info from their press release:

“We’re seeing more and more people flocking to Chromebooks as families, students and other consumers seek out easy-to-use, highly portable and affordable laptops as resources for personal use, education and even work,” said Gary Riding, senior vice president, Mobile Computing at Samsung Electronics America.

“Samsung recognized that demand when we launched the first-ever Chromebook in 2011. We’re continuing to keep up with evolving consumer needs with this new iteration, which offers even more convenient features that solve consumers’ pain points, like all day battery life and fast charging capabilities.”

The Chromebook 3 was built for mobile use, with features that make it perfect for carrying between rooms, meetings or classes. It weighs just over 2.5 pounds, is comfortable to hold and was designed for improved grip, reducing worry when juggling books, bags or other items along with the Chromebook.

A reinforced metal body adds durability against drops and spills, adding peace of mind while on-the-go. For ultimate productivity, the ergonomic keyboard creates a better typing experience, with UL certified curved keycaps, while the display’s 180-degree hinge makes sharing content effortless.

No details as yet on pricing, although we think it’ll be in the same ballpark as the previous Chromebook 2 which retailed for £249.99/$399.99 – so you’re getting a fair bit of bang for a very modest buck.

The Samsung Chromebook 3 will be available in early 2016 at select retailers and Samsung.com.
