Sony Ericsson is keen to tell us all just how god-damn good the 8.1MP camera in their new XPERIA Arc Android smartphone is, and judging by the videos below, you can colour us impressed.
High end sensor
What makes the Arc stand out from the pack is the inclusion of a back-illuminated Sony Exmor R sensor and a fast f/2.4 lens for vastly improved low-light performance.
Accessed via a dedicated hardware button, the camera comes with a full slew of photographic features, including scene modes, focus modes, flash settings, face detection, white balance adjustment, geotagging and exposure settings.
Stabilised and speedy
There’s also a built-in image stabiliser, and in the demo the camera is shown firing off photos at a very impressive pace.
The XPERIA Arc can also shoot 720p HD video – in fact the demo was shot by another Arc – making this look like a real contender for a camera replacement for everyday use.
Best of all, there’s a built in HDMI-connector for hooking up the phone and viewing camera snaps and movies on home TV sets.
Big screen
Running Android 2.3, the XPERIA serves up a sumtious sumptuous 4.2in multitouch, capacitive screen supporting 854 x 480 pixels resolution, backed by a 1200mAh battery.
Powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 CPU, there’s 512MB of built-in storage, plus a microSD and microSDHC slot up to 32GB.
