Marketing internet bods HubSpot wanted to find out what difference a profile picture made to the popularity of a Twitter account, so set about analysing the figures.
Digging into Twitter Grader data and rummaging through around 9 million Twitter profiles, it was discovered that adding a profile picture makes a huge difference.
It seems that accounts with a profile picture attracted, on average, over 10 times more followers than those without.
On the face of it, that’s not surprising – after all, a profile with a default avatar suggests you’re looking at a fumbling newbie rather than teh serious Tweeter – but we’re a little surprised the difference should be so great.
Here’s a needlessly large and simple graph from Hubspot to reinforce the point.
