In a case of spectacular bad timing, the WhatsApp messaging service – which has just been bought by Facebook for a staggering $19bn – has now been down for several hours.
The complaints from users started around 7pm tonight and a few hours later #whatsappdown was trending on Twitter, swiftly followed by the usual amusing meme graphics.
Rival service Telegram, which reported yesterday that a million new users had signed up in the past 24 hours, found itself in trouble too, with their servers suffering under the strain of ‘an avalanche of new users.’
They reported on Twitter that they were getting 100 new registrations every second.
As of 22.20pm today (GMT) both our WhatsApp and Telegram services aren’t working.
